It’s no surprise that most of us love a good glass of wine with dinner now and again, but it turns out you can enjoy this with your favourite cake as well. The secret is selecting the right kind of wine to go with your cake. Check out some of my tips below.
Cheesecake is best served with, you guessed it, white wine! Aromatic white wine, to be exact. Have a look at Muscat Blanc, Vidal Blanc or even a nice Riesling to go perfectly with a decadent slice of cheesecake. The flavours complement each other perfectly without one overpowering the other.
For rich chocolate cakes, you need a wine that would match the bold flavours. Think fortified wines like a sherry or a port. Bonus – chocolate and wine are both filled with antioxidants, so you’re being healthy… Agree?
A traditional sponge cake pairs perfectly with a few types of wine. Avoid a full-bodied red and consider a refreshing sparkling wine or even a dessert wine to go with it. The simplicity in flavour of the cake lends it self to complement any light wine.
Carrot cake goes great with a delicious cream sherry! The flavours complement each other and are perfect on cold winter evenings when you’re craving something sweet.
Do you have a favourite cake and wine pairing? Let me know and I might just give it a try.
