Wedding Cake Traditions

Wedding cakes – no marriage can start without one. In fact, I would dare say it’s as important as the wedding dress. Over the years, there have been a few traditions when it comes to enjoying these masterpieces.

If you have ever been to a wedding, you would know that it is customary for the bride and groom to join hands and cut the first slice of cake together. This is also a perfect time for the photographer to snap a picture for the couple to treasure.

Another tradition is feeding each other a piece of cake as a symbol of their love and support for one another. Many young lovers take this a step further and smash the cake in the other’s face. This has become somewhat of a tradition in its own right and is fun. Cake is supposed to be fun, right?

Another practice is saving the top tier of your wedding cake, freezing it and then eating it on your first anniversary. I love this idea!

It’s also said that, if you’re single, you should save a piece of wedding cake and put it under your pillow when you go to sleep so you can dream of your future spouse!

In recent years, it’s become common to not just have the standard tiered cake with the little bride and groom on top, but to add personal touches that represent your culture, personality or something unique to yourself. This is a great idea and can be a lot of fun!

Wedding cakes can often be taken too seriously. I say the most important aspect is the taste. Get in touch with me and let’s discuss how we can delight your guests!
